Q How do I care for my stone on a daily bases?
A Clean surface with a neutral cleaner, mild liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water.
Q My granite has a leathered finish, does this change the way I care for it?
A There are several finishes, (polished, honed, leathered, antiqued and others). The type of finish will not impact the type of cleaning product used.
Q How often should I seal my granite?
A We will seal your stone as the last step of the installation process. You will need to reapply sealant, (we use Miracle 511) every 1-2 years depending on the use of area.
Even a properly sealed surface can stain if left in contact with a staining agent for an extended period of time. Therefore, all spills should be wiped up as soon as possible. If left unsealed, everyday spills can penetrate the surface. Soft drinks and fruit juices contain mild acids which could etch the surface of a stone and stain rather quickly.
Q Can I put marble counter tops in my kitchen?
A Yes, many kitchens are done in marble, BUT it is important to realize the different qualities that marble possess. Marble is a MUCH softer and MORE porous.
Q Are the seams visible?
A Yes, seams are visible on your counter tops. We place the pieces as close together as possible and bond them with color coordinated epoxy. A well done seam will be smooth, but can be felt.
Q What determines the price of the stone?
A There are a number of determining factors in pricing. One being the difficulty in quarrying the stone. Some stones are much deeper in the earth than others. Another factor is what part of the world the stone comes from, the costs in that country for shipping, taxes, customs etc. The availability is another factor in price. It is possible for a quarry to run out of a specific stone.
